The multinational communications & information technology giant, Nokia, after a brief pause in the mobile division, is officially back with a new smartphone. There were rumors that the company will make its official comeback in Mobile World Congress 2007 Barcelona with seven devices but out of nowhere, the company launched its latest mid-range smartphone Nokia 6 in China today. Nokia 6 an Android 7.0 Nougat based smartphone from Nokia, under its parent company HMD Global. For now, the device is intended for the Chinese market and we'll have to wait a bit more for a Global variant.
Nokia 6 looks promising from the pictures which surfaced after the launch, the phone comes with a metal unibody design, despite the mid-range tag, is made up of a single solid block of 6000 series aluminum which gives it a premium look, opposite to what price suggests. According to the company, it takes around 55 minutes to craft an entire Nokia 6 device. After going through different procedures & polishing processes is when the final result is obtained. Nokia 6 is a Dual SIM phone, it packs Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 chipset underneath, with an Octa-Core Cortex-A53 processor, 4GB RAM, Adreno 505 GPU and 64GB of internal storage. The display is a 5.5" Inch Full HD 1080p display with 2.5D Curved Gorilla Glass on top of it. The rear camera is a 16 Megapixel shooter with f/2.0 aperture, Phase Detection Autofocus, and Full HD 1080p@30fps video recording capability. The front camera is an 8-megapixel shooter with f/2.0 aperture. And as mentioned earlier, it runs Android Nougat 7.0 out-of-the-box. Nokia 6 packs a 3000 mAh battery under its hood which is non-removable.
Price & Availability
Nokia 6 is priced at 1699 CYN which roughly converts to $245 USD or Rs.16,500 INR. The phone will be available exclusively via JD.com in early 2007. The specs look good for the price, except for the chipset. I feel that Snapdragon 430 is quite old for 2007 and limits the capability of the device at some points. Anyways we can expect more from Nokia in the coming months, now that they've made their comeback, let's see what is there for us in the future.
