SanDisk Ultra Dual USB Drive 3.0 32GB Variant Review

Sunday 7 January 2007 | 13:41 WIB Last Updated 2020-05-01T13:04:32Z
Starting the new year with a review, I hope you guys had fun celebrating the new year. From the past few weeks, I'm using SanDisk Ultra Dual USB 3.0 Drive and am really impressed with the product. Previously I've used the SanDisk Ultra USB 2.0 OTG Drive and was quite happy with it, but unfortunately, one day it got washed down in the washing machine. I kept it aside for drying and it started working as normal again, but one day it started throwing errors at me and after diagnosing it with a USB Drive software, I found a lot of bad sectors on it, that's when I decided to go for a new USB Drive. Initially, I was about to pick one of these; Strontium Nitro Plus OTG or Kingston DT MicroDuo USB 3.0 Drive, but ended up going with the latest version of SanDisk Ultra, the USB 3.0 Dual Drive. Today I'll be writing a quick review on it.

Packaging & Design

The packaging was very simple and similar to other SanDisk products, the USB Drive was enclosed in a hard plastic shell type packaging which was transparent and the product was visible from within. The packaging contained the USB Drive and nothing else, the information was printed on the back side. The USB Drive is quite light in weight, there are some improvements in the design, as compared to the previous model and I kinda liked the new design. The product is made up of plastic and has a textured design with SanDisk logo on one side and plain glossy black on the other half. There is a metal strip in the middle with a loop for installing the wrist/neck strap, however, the packaging does not include any.

You can take a look at the pictures above for a better idea about the design. The USB Drive is quite small in size and is easy to carry around in the pocket. There is a plastic slider which when turned towards left side extends the USB 3.0 port & when turned towards the right side, extends the MicroUSB port. When the slider is turned in the middle, it retracts the ports inside the casing.

Speed Benchmarks & Testing

The SanDisk Ultra Dual USB 3.0 Drive comes formatted with FAT32 file system, the unit which I tested was a 32GB capacity USB Drive, out of which 28.7GB was usable. We tested the USB Drive with CrystalDiskMark software, below are the screenshots of the results.

Benchmark Result when connected on Windows 10 / USB 2.0 port.

Unfortunately, the screenshot of the results on USB 3.0 port got deleted, so I'm simply sharing the figures below.

On Windows 10, when connected via USB 3.0 port the sequential Read Speed was; 141 MB/s and Write Speed was; 38 MB/s

The USB 3.0 performance was quite good for the price. I haven't tested it on a Mac yet but what I've heard is that SanDisk Ultra Dual USB 3.0 Drives gives around 135 MB/s Read Speed and 40 MB/s Write Speed.

Verdict & Rating

Overall I was happy with the performance of SanDisk Ultra Dual USB 3.0 Drive, it was way better than the previous model. The Read & Write speed were really good and stable. It is priced at Rs.760 for 32GB variant, Rs.470 for 16GB variant and Rs.1250 for 64GB variant (these are approximate prices in India) - these prices are quite cheap for such a product and that too from a trusted brand like SanDisk, there are a lot of different models present in the market at similar prices, which gives you a choice. If you ask me, I'll definitely recommend going for SanDisk Ultra Dual USB 3.0 Drive, since it is one of the cheaper USB 3.0 Drives and is quite good in performance.

My Rating: 3.5 Out of 5
